Design concept for Phoenix
The story of Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun is well known and has been handed down through the ages. The work is based on their historical story and is designed with the theme of 'Phoenix Seeking Phoenix'. The work is designed in a modern installation language, with a dynamic installation of two phoenixes hovering around each other, chasing each other and slowly merging into one, symbolising the love between Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun. At night, a water curtain projection is used to interpret the love story of Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun in the form of an animated virtual scene, with the dynamic scene of the two phoenixes flying together giving people endless reverie. The music of the ancient zither "Phoenix Seeking Phoenix" echoes the overall culture, perfectly demonstrating the cultural connotation of "Phoenix Seeking Phoenix" and inspiring people to pursue the courage of free love. Visitors will be able to interact and experience the full range of visual experiences with sound and light, which in turn will drive the night-time economy and increase the popularity of the Forbidden City.
The work is placed next to the gate of the 1913 Cultural and Creative Factory (former granary), using the artistic technique of round carving combined with relief carving to restore the scene of peasants paying public grain in the 1960s, while using the building wall as a carrier, combined with artistic hand-painting to show the old photos of the queue to pay public grain at that time, the overall scene is retro and full of memories, reflecting the epitome of an era, the viewer can intuitively feel the different cultural atmosphere back then.
