Historical and Cultural Block Renovation and Improvement—Xinghua Ancient City Historical Block Cultural Industry Plan

Based on the millennium-old historical and cultural context of Putian Xinghua Ancient City, and taking its core area (mainly six main streets and alleys, supplemented by branch alleys in the region) as the scope of improvement, according to the different historical cultures, block characteristics, and business formats of its streets, alleys, roads, and坊, following a development model of “Culture + Tourism + Industry”, the relationship between “Culture * Space * Function” is sorted out, fully excavating the cultural genes of Xinghua City, such as architecture, commerce, festivals, intangible cultural heritage skills, food, longevity, and traditional customs. Key ancient houses such as “Dazongbo Residence” and “Lin Yangzu Former Residence” within the block are deeply improved. Combining business formats such as antiques and calligraphy and painting, gold and silver jewelry jade, cultural and creative products, intangible cultural heritage, specialty food, local products, boutique homestays, and high-end cultural experiences, cultural industries such as art creation, film and television, and new media are introduced. Accelerating integration into Putian City's whole-region tourism system, the goal is to transform this block into a 5A-level scenic area for whole-region tourism and residence, a cultural and leisure tourism destination for Xinghua Ancient City, a place of nostalgic memories for Putian, a popular cultural and creative tourism check-in point, a typical example of Putian merchant culture, and a national historical and cultural city. The aim is to establish the “Xinghua Ancient City” brand, allowing the ancient city to carry culture, and culture to achieve the ancient city.

The six most central ancient streets of Xinghua Ancient City are Dalu, Miaqian, Xianxiang, Houjie, Yahou, and Fangxiang. The traces of this ancient city's development are rooted here. The existence and changes of the ancient streets, alleys, and residences evoke memories for generations of older Putian people. However, with the passage of time, more and more young people have left these old streets, leaving only a small number of elderly people. They have lived on these old streets their entire lives. The elderly say they hope these ancient streets can remain in their original form and become a symbol of Putian.
