The city, the sculpture and the story behind it

(Summary description)One such city, the only one in the country named after an eagle, is Yingtan, located in northeastern Jiangxi.

Information

Yingtan

The only city in China named after an eagle is Yingtan, located in the northeast of Jiangxi province. Yingtan may not seem so famous, but when it comes to Longhu Mountain, everyone is familiar with it. Long Hu Mountain is under the jurisdiction of Yingtan, although historically it belonged to Guixi, but it is history after all. In the 1950s, with the opening of the Yingxia Line, Yingtan was suddenly transformed into a gorgeous city, not only called "the city pulled by trains", but also interpreted as "the back of the front, the front of the back". Why? Because Fujian is the front of Taiwan, and Yingtan is the back of Fujian, and Jiangxi is the back of Taiwan, and Yingtan has become the front of Jiangxi.

Yingtan is close to Luster and Wuyishan, and is connected to Fujian by mountains and water, with similar cultures. Yingtan's mother river, the Xinjiang River, originates in Luster, Fujian, and the two places have always had good collaboration in ecological protection and sustainable development.

"For a long time in the past, Yingtan was the only channel for railways to enter and leave Fujian, and most of the materials entering Fujian had to pass through Yingtan, while the logistics of Fujian had to be sent to all parts of the country through Yingtan." So said the people of Yingtan.

Yingtan, known as the "city pulled by trains", soon became the largest railway grouping station in Jiangnan and one of the top three in the country, with logistics and people flowing to make the city vibrant.

I don't know which year it was, but in early August when the heat was intense, a giant bronze sculpture of a city called "God's Eagle" suddenly appeared next to the Eagle East Bridge in Plum Garden Park, Xinjiang.

Its shape is like that of an eagle and its resemblance to a roc is lifelike and exquisite. At that time, it was the largest cast bronze eagle sculpture in China. Some years ago, in the railway station square, there used to stand a large bronze sculpture of an eagle, which almost became the symbol and emblem of Yingtan city. Later on, the bronze eagle disappeared and the citizens were disappointed. The eagle of Yingtan, with its back to the sky, its wings are large, strong and powerful, its eyes are gleaming and full of spirit, fighting to whistle, the fine hair is strong, in the void of the whisk and move, the demeanour is fierce, the momentum is magnificent. The eagle's wings are like a capital 'V', which means that it is invincible and unbeatable. Its determination, its will, its ambition, its majesty, its righteousness, all fill the void. On the front, it looks like a capital 'Y', while on the side it resembles a 'T', the abbreviation for 'Yingtan'.

The bronze sculpture of the "God Eagle" weighs 10.6 tonnes, with the eagle's wings spaced 10 metres apart and 10 metres high (including 3.5 metres at the base), and is made of bronze and cast in an innovative way on the basis of traditional techniques. In the future, it will be set against a granite plinth, making it even more dynamic, majestic and imposing.
